A beetle seen from above is a natural chart: one axis of symmetry, a hard outline, and a shell divided into a few flat fields of colour. Count one side and mirror it. The iridescence that makes a real beetle shimmer becomes two or three strong greens and coppers side by side, which is exactly how stitched thread catches light.

Yes. Every chart in this collection is whole cross stitch only — no backstitch, no quarter or three-quarter stitches and no french knots. If you can sew one X over one square of aida you can finish any of them. Every chart is 130 stitches square, finishing at about 9¼ inches on 14-count aida; what varies between them is the number of floss colours.
