About these cute gothic patterns

Everything on this shelf is drawn the same way: one rounded subject, big eyes, a bold outline and a handful of flat colours. That is deliberate rather than decorative — a flat shape with clean edges charts into large blocks of one floss, which is quick to stitch and reads from across a room. Fussy shading is what turns a chart into a field of single stitches.
